The First Indian Woman who Qualify For Tokyo Olympics 2020 in Sailor, is Nethra Kumanan

Nethra Kumanan became the first Indian woman mariner to qualify for the Asian qualifiers' laser radial competition for the Olympics on Wednesday, April 7 in Oman.

Currently, Chennai-based Kumanan has 18 points while Saravanan has 39 points at the Musana Open Championships, a joint Asian-African qualification.

In sailing competitions, the athlete who scores the least points wins the competition. Kumanan now has only one round to go and the final race on Thursday is 20 points.

Laser radial is a boat that is operated by only one person.

Asian Sailing Federation President Malav Shroff announced that Kumanan has qualified for the Tokyo Olympics with a race to the final day.

Shroff, who himself represented India in the Olympic sailing event at The Athens Games, said the final was a 20-point race but more than 20 points away from his nearest Asian opponent.

Kumanan will be the 10th Indian to qualify for ships at the Olympics and all male athletes who have qualified before are men.

Shroff said Kumanan was the only Indian to top the qualifiers and book a place directly in the quota. All the first Olympians made it by getting quotas that can't be filled, Shroff said.
